There Was Some Good Variety At the Throw Down

 When an open car show brings in just south of 100 vehicles the odds are good that there will be a nice variety on display. That was true with the Downtown Throw Down in Batavia. If you've been following this blog you have seen what I mean with a lot of different cars and trucks. This one gets kicked off with a Volkswagen Type 2 van. Also on the streets that day was a well worn Chevy 10 pick up, a 1938 Ford truck, a Ford F150, a Chevy Monte Carlo, a 1968 Camaro, and a 1972 Monte Carlo.

Bel Air Joined the Throw Down

The Chevy Bel Air is a mainstay in old car events all over the country. Any open show is most likely going to attract at least one, if not more. And more often than not the Bel Air will be one of the famed Tri-5 models, those manufactured between 1955 and 1957. The Downtown Throw Down in Batavia saw a number of Tri-5 models as well as an earlier version. Here they are, starting with a 1955 beauty.

More Gems From the Thow Down

 The Downtown Throw Down has become a staple in the small city of Batavia where they close down a section of the city center to host the event. This year they drew in about 90 vehicles on an absolutely beautiful and warm early autumn day. And that's good because this event supports the Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team. Some of the vehicles taking part in this year's event included an American Motors AMX, a Ford Pinto, a a 1967 Chevy Camaro, a Pontiac Firebird, a horse drawn hearse that was actually once used by a funeral home that was a sponsor of the event, the Ride to Eternity motorcycle driven hearse, and a Corvette.

Modern Cars Came To the Throw Down

There are a lot of purists in the old car hobby who turn their noses up at seeing modern "parking lot" cars roll into shows. One car show organizer explained his position to me several years ago, stating that if someone wants to show up with a new car and donate to the charity, who is he to complain? There were plenty of the newer rides that showed up to this year's Downtown Throw Down. Among them was a Mustang, a Challenger, a couple Camaros, another Mustang and a Jeep Wrangler.

A Show to Help Honor Our Fallen Veterans

Founded in 1966, the Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team honors fallen veterans year round, not just on special holidays. Tending to the graves and helping with memorial services, the organization relies on donations and volunteers to perform this service. That is why the Downtown Throw Down held in the main business district of Batavia donates proceeds to help with this worthy cause. This year's Throw Down attracted nearly 100 vehicles including a custom that started life as a 1950 Mercury coupe, a 1968 Oldsmobile 442 convertible, a Cobra kit car, a 1969 Chevy Camaro, a re-boot model Ford Thunderbird, a well worn Ford F-250 pick up, a restomod Chevy pick up, and a highly customized street racer Beretta.

This year's annual Downtown Throwdown, held in the main business district of Batavia each year, drew close to 100 vehicles. As could be expected, a good number of them were Chevy Corvettes from different eras. Here are some that were on hand.

The town of Batavia will block off several blocks of its city center once a year for The Downtown Throwdown, an annual car show that generally draws about 100 vehicles. This year's event was held on a beautiful, warm autumn day with proceeds going to support the Southwest Ohio VFW Memorial Team, a group that helps to maintain the grave sites of veterans. Among the vehicles that showed up this year was a Pontiac Trans Am, a Dodge Challenger, a 1967 Chevy Camaro, a 1971 Plymouth Duster, a 1984 Chevette that has actually survived, a 1990 Fox body Ford Mustang, a F150 pick up, and a 1983 S-10 Blazer.
