The Glendale Gathering Brings In the Imports

Not only does the annual Glendale Gathering bring in an impressive selection of imported vehicles but some are cars that are rarely seen. This 1967 Jaguar 340 isn't one you normally see at your typical car show. So along with a very recent Jag is the likes of a 1973 XJ 6. But not all the imports came from England. There was a Porsche Boxter, a 1965 Alfa Romeo, and a Porsche 356 Carrara Speedster.

Some Usual and Some Unique Cars At the Glendale Gathering

The Glendale Gathering has a reputation of pulling in a lot of excellent automobiles. For that reason it's not uncommon to see some of the typical and expected car show rides on hand, like this 1955 Chevy Bel Air and the 1957 version beside it. But you can also see some you don't often see at shows like a Ford Pinto, a 1981 Jeep CJ 7, a Mercury Cougar convertible, a 1949 Cadillac Model 62 that was actually used in the Jack Nicholson movie "The Two Jakes," a concours quality Caddy, and a 1985 Mercury Capri which was one of only 10 ASC McLaren versions built.

More Foreign Cars At the Glendale Gathering

One of the many things that makes the Glendale Gathering such an amazing event is the fact that they draw a large number of foreign automobiles. In fact, nearly half of this year's about 80 cars on display came from foreign shores. Among them was this 1965 Lotus S2, a 1964 Austin Healey 3000 MkII, a 1972 Datsun 240Z owned by my friend Fred Jones who is the head of the selection committee at the Cincinnati Concour d'Elegance, another 1972 240Z, a Dino 246 GTS (yes the Dino was a line built by Ferrari and named for Enzo's son who developed a fantastic six cylinder engine initially for Fiat), a Porsche 911, and a 1971 BMW 2002, the model many believe saved the company.

Vettes Always Gather In Glendale

The Glendale Gathering always draws a very large number of Chevy Corvettes. In fact, they have a special place along a side road set up just for the Vettes. Here are some that were on hand for this year's event. 

A Lot Of Foreign Cars At the Glendale Gathering.

The Glendale Gathering, held in historic Glendale, OH which is one of the few entire cities to be on the national historic registry, has long been one of my favorites for many reasons. One of which is the large number of imported cars that choose to attend. Among this year's group was a 1972 Citroen D Special. This famed French automaker was a leader in the use of hydraulics in cars. Also at the show was a 1979 Fiat 124, a 1967 Amphicar (if this looks familiar just hop back to my coverage of the Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance and you'll see it there as well), a 1959 Triumph TR3A, a 1972 Volkswagen Super Beetle, and a brand new Lotus Evora.

The Glendale Gather Returns

The Glendale Gathering is one of my favorite shows each season. No, it isn't the biggest but it does attract some of the coolest and often unique cars of any show in the region. The reason is that some of the people behind this, including my friend Fred Jones, are all part of the Cincinnati Concours team. This year was another stand out with such cars as this 1957 Lincoln Premiere convertible, a Ford Deluxe convertible, a very rare 1920 Cleveland Model 40 four door touring, a 1937 Cord, a 1957 Chevy Bel Air, a 1957 Bel Air Handyman station wagon, and a 1969 Camaro Rally Sport.

Wrapping Up the 13th Syrian Shrine Car Show

Today is the last day of posts from the 13th Annual Syrian Shrine Car Show that raised money in support of the Shrine Hospitals. There was a fine selection of cars and trucks on hand for this show.
