People have done a lot of different things to Volkswagen Beetles. One reason is because the cars are so simple and easy to work on. Originally built to satisfy the desire to go off road or on the west coast's sandy beaches, the Dune Buggy was an expansion of the Hot Rod culture. Taking a basic VW Beetle frame, you could easily add big fat tires, heavy duty shocks, a fiberglass body or a simple tube frame and convert it into something wholly new and unique.
Here are some of the many dune buggies that were on display at the recent 27th Annual Volkswagen and Porsche Reunion.
