The Car Show Bible

This is one of my favorite times of the year. Sure, spring is in the air (or is supposed to be but the bloody weather doesn't seem to want to co-operate) with all the re-birth and love that goes along with it. But This time of year marks the beginning of the new car show season for those of us in this part of the country.

For the folks in my neck of the woods, while there may have been a couple of small warm up shows already, the real season kicks off with the show this coming Sunday sponsored by the Sharonville Chamber of Commerce (http://www.sharonvillechamber.com/index.php?page=Car). This is the 36th year for this show that closes off half of the historic Sharonville Loop and fills it and the surrounding parking lots with a collection of hundreds of classic and collectable cars.

There is another reason to celebrate this weekend, especially if you live in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Tennessee. Sunday will be the first day this year's Show & Shine Calendar (http://showandshinecalendar.com/) will be available.

Dubbed the "Car Show Bible" by many of its loyal fans, the calendar is currently in its 26th year of listing just about every classic automotive event in this part of the country.

"There are almost 1600 shows in the Show & Shine 2013," said Debbie Troxell, who along with husband Roy have been collecting and putting together invaluable calendar for over a quarter of a century.

Back in the 1980s Debbie and Roy would take their 1955 Chevy Bel Air to shows around the region.
“At the shows we would get fliers for other shows. It was Roy’s idea to buy a big blank calendar and keep track of the shows,” said Debbie. From this grew one of the most comprehensive regional collections of show information in the country.

Debbie spends much of the year collecting information, selling ads and getting together pictures and graphics for the upcoming calendar. 

Since the Sharonville show is the sort of unofficial beginning to the car show season around here, Debbie and Roy decided to use that event as the official kick off for sales each year. 


“People will call us up all the time asking if we’re going to be there,” she said. “I don’t know what would happen if we didn’t make it out on time. I guess people wouldn’t know where to go for a show each week.”

People who can't make it to the Sharonville show aren't out of luck with it comes to owning a copy of this fantastic collection. Many people from around the region and even all over the country will order up a copy to be mailed out. All of the mail orders will be shipped on Monday.
