Corvettes In Newport

 

Most everyone knows the Chevrolet Corvette. It was a car introduced in 1953 to help combat the growing number of European sports cars flooding the United States. GIs returning from Europe after World War II had seen and grown enamored with the sports cars they encountered over there. Many wanted one when they came home. General Motors saw those cars eating into their profits and created the Vette. It has become America's premier sports car and that's one reason why so many were on hand for the Wheels Back on Monmouth car event in Newport. Here are some of the Vettes that were on display.
