More Oldsmobiles At the All GM Show

 

Today I'm wrapping up some of the posts from the 3rd 20th Century All GM Show. If you haven't been following the blog, scroll back and check out some of the cars and trucks I've already posted. Since there were so many Oldsmobiles on hand for this event I'm posting yet another batch. Among them is a very nice 442,  a 1969 Hurst/Olds, a Cutlass, another 442, its convertible brother, another hard top, and a W 131 Cutlass. GM Trucks At the Show

 

General Motors has always had a strong history with their line of trucks. Ranging from the basic work trucks to early SUVs that weren't even called that when they came out, GM has been a one of the top selling lines of work vehicles in America. There were quite a few on hand for the 3rd 20th Century All GM Show, including a GMC Jimmy, and a bunch of Chevrolet models ranging from a Cheyenne, an Apache, the 3100, an xTreme, and even a 10.

Following the end of World War II, major car manufacturers scrambled to put out new cars for a society that was gaining in prosperity. Most were quick re-vamps of car models from before the war until new designs could be made. At General Motors' entry level division, Chevrolet, this was very true as they rolled affordable cars off of their various lines. In 1950, with minor changes, Chevy introduced their full size entry called the Bel Air. Named after the affluent neighborhood in Los Angeles, the Bel Air basically started as a trim for its first generation, In 1955, with the introduction of the second generation, the Bel Air came to symbolize America's growing car culture.That second generation was so popular that many people have rescued and restored the so called "Tri-5" models. There were quite a few on hand for the 3rd 20th Century All GM Show at the headquarters of Wyler Automotive. Here are some.

                                        

Plenty Of Oldsmobiles At the All GM Show

 

Despite having some of the largest selling models through the 1980s, General Motors pulled the plug on the Oldsmobile line of automobiles in 2004 as part of its streamlining measures. Many in the old car hobby have salvaged and honored this make of car and for that reason there were plenty of them on hand for the 3rd 20th Century All GM Car Show. Among them was a very cool 1964 Dynamic 88, a W-25, a W-30, a 1955 Delta 88, a 1972 Cutlass convertible, and a 442.

When soldiers came home from fighting World War II in Europe, many brought with them memories of the small sports cars they had encountered. Many began looking to import the cars because they were not only sleek and sexy but fun to drive. Seeing this as a potential hit to their market share, General Motors decided to create their own American sports car. The Chevrolet Corvette came out in 1953. Ford and Studebaker both came out with versions of sports cars that year but the Vette, despite first year problems and some growing pains, has been the one to endure. Today in its eighth generation, there were quite a few on hand for the 3rd 20th Century All GM Car Show. Here are just a few.

 

Camaro At the 20th Century All GM Show

 

The summer of 1964 saw a massive revolution in the American automobile industry. That is when the 1965 Ford Mustang was released. The 'Stang was a sporty car aimed at the Baby Boomers who were coming of driving age. The Mustang was a massive success and the Pony car was born. While Plymouth had actually beaten Ford to the market by weeks with their Barracuda, the Mustang was the car making all the headlines. General Motors was caught flat footed and scrambled to find a car to compete. It took them until 1966 but they came out with their competition, the Chevrolet Camaro. The Camaro has proven a worthy rival. Now in its sixth generation the Camaro is still a top seller. There were plenty of these cars on hand for the 3th 20th Century All GM Show that spanned several generations. Here are some of them.
