Porsche was celebrated as the featured marque at the Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance. With classes broken down by decade, today's post will show the cars in the class from the 1980s. Porsche was always looking for an entry level car and by 1990 they had developed the 944 which featured a front mounted engine and almost perfect weight distribution between front and back.
Here is a 1989 911 Speedster. It is one of only 823 Speedsters sold in the US that year and is only one of six painted in this color.
This is a 1987 911 Turbo. Dubbed the 930, these cars sported a 3.3 L air cooled engine that generated 300 horse power.
Here is a 1986 944 Turbo. The vast majority of these cars were imported to the US. It had a 2.5 L four cylinder engine that gave it a top speed of 153 miles per hour.
This is a 1986 911 Carrera. These cars sported a massive rear wing.
This is the actual prototype for the 911 Speedster. It was made in 1985 and became the personal car of Porsche CEO Peter Schultz.
A multiple concours winner, this 1984 911 Cabriolet had the new 3.2 L engine that produced 207 horse power.
Another former concours winner is this 1984 911 Targa Carrera.
By the late 1970s Porsche had decided it needed to replace the aging 911. The solution was a front mounted V8 luxury sports sedan called the 928. Porsche owners threatened to revolt and the 911 was continued. This is a 1982 model, unrestored with only 14,000 miles.
Here is a 1981 924 GTS, one of only 59 GTS models built for FIA Group 4 racing homologation.
