Rollin' On the River Saw Plenty of Corvettes

When US servicemen began returning home from World War II in Europe, many brought with them the desire to own a two-seater sports car like the ones they'd seen during their tour of duty. It wasn't a flood but soon cars such as the MG TD were being imported and driven on American roads. In order to grab a piece of this new growing market niche, General Motors turned to designer Harley Earl to create an all American sports car. What he came up with was the Chevrolet Corvette. While the first generation (the car seen above) lacked the power to fully satisfy many drivers, subsequent generations did. Now in its eighth generation, the Vette is not only one of Chevy's most popular cars of all time, but it is a true icon in the motoring world. It's little wonder, then, that there were plenty of Vettes on hand for the 33rd Annual Rollin' On the River event at Fernbank Park. Here are some that were basking in the sun that day.
