Most
people who own a near mint condition 1965 Mustang Fast Back have had the car
restored, at least partially. But not Scott Wood.
“This
one’s pretty much original when I bought it eight years ago,” Scott said. “It
was originally sold in South Carolina. I’m the third owner.”
Scott
isn’t a newby when it comes to owning a Mustang. “I’ve owned three of them,” he
said, adding that he bought his first when he was 25. “All of them have been Fast
Backs.”
He
is rightly proud of his car and admits that since it hasn’t been restored that
adds a little extra satisfaction. “A lot of cars get totally taken apart and
re-built but there hasn’t been hardly anything done to this car. It was
re-painted because the lacquer was chipping,” he said.
“The
engine was rebuilt by Paul Zhan Auto two years ago,” he added. The engine is
the standard 289 and has the original block.
“It
has power steering, power brakes, backup lights, air and automatic
transmission,” said Scott. “The backup lights were an option. They were there
when I bought the car but they weren’t hooked up,” he added.
Scott
drives the car a lot. “I probably put about 2000 miles on it each year,” he
said. He also shows it a lot as well.
“We
won eight trophies out of 12 shows we entered last year,” Scott said. One of
those trophies was the Plant Manager’s Favorite at the Ford manufacturing plant
show in Springdale.
Looking
at this practically original 1965 Mustang it is easy to see why the manager
chose it as the best. This car is as good as new.
