Depression Era Cars

            Some of the first cars that Bill Snook collected that are still in the Snook’s Dream Cars museum were from the 1930s. This makes sense, since these were the cars he grew up with. Here are six gold standard cars from 1930s Detroit.

            First are two 1931 Ford Model As. The first is a Deluxe Roadster and the other is a Woody Station Wagon. The wagon is one of only 3018 ever produced. Both sport the 200 cubic inch 40 horse power four cylinder engine made famous by this line of cars.

            Next up is a 1933 Buick Series 60. Only 1000 of these cars rolled off the assembly line. It was powered by a 272 cubic inch straight eight that churned out 97 horse power. This particular car has been in Bowling Green, OH since the 1940s.

            A 1933 Cadillac 355C Rumble Seat Coup was once owned by Mary Clark of Kimberly-Clark fame. Completely restored in 2000 to original specs, the car has a 353 cubic inch V-8 that pushes out 115 horse power.

            Added to the collection in August, 2006, a 1935 Ford 48 Standard Five Window Coupe features a greyhound hood ornament and a banjo steering wheel.  Its engine is a 221 cubic inch Flathead V-8 that generates 85 horse power.

            Finally there is a 1936 Ford 68 Deluxe Roadster also features a greyhound hood ornament and a banjo steering wheel along with spider hubcaps. The car got new paint and a new top in 2004. When it goes out for its regular drive it is powered by a 221 cubic inch V-8 that runs up to 85 horse power.
