The 1950s was a special time for the American automobile industry. The economy was now booming following the end of World War II. People were migrating out of the city to the suburbs and that meant they needed their own car to get around. There was a huge leap in design by all manufacturers as sales rose. The biggest selling brand during that time was Chevrolet with their line of cars, the 150, 210 and top of the line Bel Air. Introduced in 1950, the car cost $1741 which is a little over $22,000 today. The first generation ran through 1954 but it is the second generation, the so-called Tri-5 models of 1955 through 1957 that are most common at old car events. There were plenty of these at Fernbank Park for the 34th Annual Rollin' On the River Charity Car Show sponsored by the Delhi Kiwanis and their affiliate Boy Scout Troupe in order to raise money for local youth charities. Here are some of the Bel Airs and other mid-century Chevys that were on hand.
