Shelby Came To the Cincinnati Concours

One of the special displays at the 44th Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance was a celebration of 60 years of Shelby American. Founded by the famed Carroll Shelby, the company has specialized in high performance, specifically making street cars into track capable cars. One such example is this 2020 Ford Shelby 350GTR which features a flat plane crank Voodoo Ford Performance engine. It is a 5.2 L V8 power plant that puts out 528 horse power.

This 1967 GT500 is one of 2048 big block Shelby Mustang GT500s produced that year. It is the only production Shelby Mustang with dual quads. It sports a 428 cubic inch police interceptor V8 that growls out 355 horse power.

This 1966 Ford GT350H is one of the 1000 made for Hertz Rent-A-Car. Imagine driving a rental that had a 289 cubic inch V8 Windsor motor that put out 306 horse power. The original ad campaign for these were as Rent-A-Racer.

Here is a 1966 K Code Coupe. The K Code refers to the upgrades on the 289 cubic inch V8 engine. It had upgraded pistons, lifter heads, connector rods, carburetor, and cylinder heads. All this added up to a power plant the turned out 271 horse power.

Only 1452 Shelby GT500KR cars were made in 1968. The KR stands for King of the Road and with a 428 cubic inch Cobra Jet V8 engine that generated 428 horse power this car was indeed royalty.

In 1965 Shelby American started making the Shelby GT 350. In 1968 the car became a Ford factory model. This first year version is one of only 532 produced that year. It is a Mustang Club of America Gold Medal winner. It has the 289 cubic inch Windsor V8 engine that puts out 306 horse power.

This 1969 GT 500 Sportsroof is one of only 192 Super Cobra Jet Drag Pack cars built that year. To help keep the weight down the car has fiberglass hood, front fenders, deck lid, and side scoops. It is powered by a 428 cubic inch V8 engine that gives it 335 horse power.

In 1997 Shelby American resumed production of its iconic 427 S/C. Here is a 2010 model that was made to emulate the original. It has a 427 cubic inch supercharged Ford V8 engine and puts out in excess of 500 horse power.
