Sports Classics Made A Showing At the Cincinnati Concours

Sports cars have been around for a long time but for many it is the earlier models, those produced before 1960 that are the most interesting. That's one reason why the 44th Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance has a Sports Classic Class dedicated to those cars that hit the road up through 1959. Among this class was a beautiful 1959 MGA Twin Cam. Only 2111 Twin Cams were produced and all were made to LeMans specifications. It has a 1588 cc inline four cylinder engine that generates 108 horse power.

Here is a 1938 MG TA Tickford convertible. Just a little more than 250 Tickfords were built with custom body work by Salmons and Sons. The car has a 1292 cc inline four cylinder engine that puts out 50 horse power.

This 1953 Arnolt MG Bertone coupe is one of only 67 coupes built by Chicago industrialist Stanley Arnolt. Based on the MG TD chassis it has a body by the Italian firm of Bertone. This unrestored car has only 2500 miles. It is powered by a 1250 cc inline four cylinder engine that puts out 52 horse power.

This 1959 Austin Healey 100-6 BN4 represents the last year for this model before being replaced by the 3000. This beautiful automobile is the result of a 30 year frame off restoration. It is powered by a 2.6 L inline six cylinder engine that puts out 117 horse power.

When this 1933 MG J2 Roadster was found in a barn in 2003 it had a bare chassis plus instruments, a radiator shell, and a windscreen frame. A five year restoration returned it to original condition. It runs on an 847 cc overhead camshaft inline four cylinder engine. It has won Best in Class awards at several concours events.

This 1950 Healey Silverstone is number 69 or only 104 hand built open two seaters. Healey's intention with this car was to be able to drive to the track, race it, and drive home. It is powered by a 2.4 L dual overhead cam four cylinder engine that churns out 180 horse power.

Chevrolet made only 3467 Corvettes in 1956 and this is one of them. The current family has owned it for 42 years and gave it a complete restoration in 2006. This C1 Vette has a 265 cubic inch V8 engine that generates 225 horse power.

Ever wonder what sparked the sports car movement in the US? Many say it was the MG TC. This 1949 model is one of only 494 specially built for the American market. It has a 1250 cc inline four cylinder engine that pushes 55 horse power.
