In the 1960s the West German military was in need of a light weight, fairly inexpensive all terrain vehicle. They turned to Volkswagen who in turn developed the Type 181 that eventually became known as the Kurierwagen. It was strictly used by the military until 1971 when West Germans could buy it for themselves. A year later it was released for passenger use in the USA where it got the name the Thing. There were a number of Things that showed up for the Porsche-Volkswagen Family Reunion. Here are some of them.
Whether they're the great classics, ultimate collectors, overlooked and forgotten, or even brand new cars I want to talk about them. Feel free to leave a comment or, better yet, drop me an email at turnerbudds@yahoo.com.
