Volkswagen Was On Hand For the Pumpkin Run
Established in 1937 by the German government, the Volkswagen was designed to be an affordable car for the people. The first model, officially called the Type 1, earned the more popular name of Beetle because of its shape. Several of those were on hand for the 47th Pumpkin Run Nationals. But there were also some Type 14 models, better known as the Karmann Ghia. Upon their introduction in the mid-1950s, the Karmann Ghia, named for the coachbuilder Karmann and the designer Ghia of Italy, was the fastest VW ever. Though still rather slow.
