The history of Volkswagen is, unfortunately, tied to the Nazis. It was Adolf Hitler who wanted what he called a "people's car." It was to be something affordable and reliable that could transport four people. While a few people worked on the project, it was famed high end and race car designer Ferdinand Porsche (yes, whose son started the Porsche brand as we know it today) who is credited with the design of the rear mounted four cylinder, air cooled engine model that became known as the Beetle. Officially called the Type 1, the car became a sensation following the war when the plant was part of the portion of Germany controlled by the British. The car became one of the most recognized and successful automobiles in the world. The Headin' For the Hill show in North College Hill saw a good selection of VW Bugs on hand. Here are some of them.
