Some More Vettes Were On Monmouth

As could be expected the Wheels On Monmouth show brought out a large number of Chevy Corvettes among the over 400 vehicles on display. Here are some examples representing each of the first four generations of Vettes.

War Era Cars In Newport

When you draw in over 400 vehicles it's little wonder that some older cars make their way to the show. The Wheels On Monmouth event in Newport managed to show a number of very impressive war era automobiles. For example, here is a spectacular 1941 Packard One Eighty, a couple of very cool Chevy two door sedans, a Ford Model A, a 1936 Plymouth, and a spectacular LaSalle sedan.

Newport's Show Gets Re-Born In A Big Way

For years the Rides On Monmouth show in Newport was one of the biggest and most highly anticipated shows of the year. The pandemic closed it down last year and the organizers decided, for safety reasons, to not schedule it for this year. But various circumstances arose, including an unsuccessful fundraiser for a favored charity, and the decision was made to hold another show in this historic town and call it Wheels On Monmouth. The show was a huge success with over 400 cars rolling in and lining the main drag as well as various side streets and lots. Among those on display was my friend Don's newly purchased Studebaker Avanti, a car he told me he had been searching out for quite a while. Also on Monmouth was a 1978 Chevy Nova, a concours quality 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T, a 1969 Coronet R/T convertible, a first generation Ford Thunderbird, a beautiful Sunliner, and a 1956 Ford Victoria.

Trucks Were At Wheels On Monmouth

There were plenty of nice looking and hard working pick up trucks among the over 400 vehicles on hand at the Wheels On Monmouth show in Newport. Among them was a slickly restored Willys, a Ford F-100, a 1966 F-150, a Chevy Custom 10, and more.

Some Imports Rolled Ashore and Put Their Wheels On Monmouth

With well over 400 vehicles on hand it's little wonder that a good supply of foreign imports would wash ashore at the Wheels On Monmouth show. Among them was a rarely seen 1973 Volvo hatchback, a Mercedes-Benz 450 SL, a 1962 MG 1600, a well worn Toyota Celeca (my roommate from college owned one of these and there were some good times and foggy stories associated with it), and a handful of Volkswagen Beetles.

Pontiacs Were At Newport

Regular followers of this blog probably have seen me write about my family's history with Pontiacs, one being the first real car I remember us owning as a child. So it is little wonder why I was happy to see so many of this now defunct General Motors brand on display at the Wheels On Monmouth show in Newport. They were some beauties indeed, including a spectacular Bonneville convertible, a Tempest, a late day Trans Am,  a classic Firebird, one of the last Trans Am models, a couple of really nice looking GTO models, and a mid model Trans Am.

Have Porsche For Christmas

Merry Christmas to everyone. One of the many new twists the organizers of the Wheels On Monmouth show added this past year were the various special show areas for specific types or brands of cars. One of the largest was filled with the German gems from Porsche. Here are some of them, including not only the familiar 911 but also a 924, a 914, and of course a 356 or two.

Camaro Put Its Wheels On Monmouth

Wheels On Monmouth was a tremendous open show that brought in well over 400 amazing cars and trucks to line over six blocks of Newport's main street. As could be expected, there were plenty of Chevy Camaros on hand to soak up the sunshine and show off for the hundreds of fans who came out to enjoy these magnificent machines.
