Wrapping Up the Glendale Gathering

For the past week and a half I've been posting photos from this year's Glendale Gathering. It is always one of, in my opinion, best shows in the region. I don't say this because it is a massive show as only close to 100 cars and trucks roll into the historic Glendale town square. It's the quality of the vehicles that makes this show so incredible. With so many cars that have shown at various concours events in the area on hand there is sure to be high quality. Take for example these classic and collector automobiles, including a beautiful C3 Chevrolet Corvette, a first generation Ford Mustang, a Pontiac Le Mans, a 1997 BMW Z3, a 1972 Chevy Chevelle SS, a gorgeous, all original 1962 Cadillac convertible, a very rare unrestored 1953 Willys Aero Ace, and a 1968 Pontiac Tempest. As usual, feel free to let me know what you thought of this show by either leaving a comment (no ads, please) or by dropping me an email at turnerbudds@yahoo.com.

Some Sports Cars Gathered In Glendale

Sports cars have always seemed to intrigue people who enjoy automobiles. From the early days there was a fascination with speed and sports cars are emblematic of that concept but also add a sense of style. This year's Glendale Gathering attracted quite a few of these sporty vehicles. Among them was a 1998 Jaguar XKS, a Jaguar F Type, a 1954 Jaguar XK120, a 2004 Jaguar XK8, two Jaguar E Types, a Chevy Corvette, and a 1968 Alfa Romeo Duetto.

Historic Town Host Historic Cars

Named to the National Registry of Historic Places, the Village of Glendale in Ohio was one of the first examples of a planned residential community. Sitting along the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railway, Glendale was established as a true suburban respite from the city of Cincinnati. With a lush history it is a perfect setting for hosting historic and collectable vehicles. The 21st Glendale Gathering took place on a steamy hot day and attracted over 80 vehicles, many of which had been participants in various concours events. Though not all of them. Among the cars and trucks on hand was a Ford F100 Ranger, a 1969 Shelby GT 500 autographed by Carroll Shelby, a 1968 Shelby GT-350, a 2024 Volvo SUV, a first generation Ford Mustang, a 1981 Jeep CJ7, a Rambler American, a Pontiac Firebird and a C3 Chevy Corvette.

Vettes Gathered In Glendale

Chevrolet Corvettes have a special place at the annual Glendale Gathering. Set off to the side, up a closed off road, the Vettes come out in force to fill this special place at the event. Here are just a few of these sports cars from over the years that were on hand on a hot, muggy day.

German Cars Gathered In Glendale

Throughout the 1950s and 1960s Germany. with the help of their Western allies, did a lot to re-build their country following World War II. One of the first and strongest industries to emerge was their automobile companies. It took a bit longer than some of the other European countries following the war but Germany began making in-roads in foreign markets including the United States. Making for affordable small entry level cars as well as luxury machines, the German companies soon were importing a lot of vehicles to America. Because of this there were a number of German cars on hand for the recent Glendale Gathering. Among them was a 1969 BMW 2002, a BMW M5, a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, a 1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SL, a 1969 Mercedes Benz 280 SL, and a Porsche 356.

U.K. Imports Gathered In Glendale

When American soldiers came home from Europe following World War II, many had some experience with the cars of that continent. The smaller, more nimble European sports cars intrigued many of them and the United Kingdom made it a point to build automobiles for the American market. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s the U.S. was importing a number of small cars, mostly from England. There were a nice selection of these on hand at the recent Glendale Gathering including a sweet Triumph TR3A, a 1958 Morris Minor, a Triumph TR6, an Austin Healey 3000, a Land Rover, another Triumph TR6, and a Jaguar XKR.
