100 Hotest Cars of All Time

6th Annual 6th Masonic District Show

For the sixth year in a row the 6th Masonic District held their annual car, truck and bike show. Held at the picturesque Amelia Masonic Lodge, the show didn't draw a huge crowd of cars but what was there offered up a nice variety of great cars.

Some of the cars featured in this post are a very nice Ford Fairlane, a Chevy Bel Air, a couple of very sweet looking customs, a 1955 Olds, and a Willys Jeep.

Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the annual 500, has more than just the track. Nestled within is a marvelous museum that not only boasts all of the winning cars (more on those at the end of next week) but also a number of other interesting and significant automobiles such as this 1922 Davis Four Door Touring Series 71.

There's also this 1920 Stutz H Bulldog Touring. Stutz, if you didn't already know, was one of the many auto makers who worked out of Indiana. The Davis was assembled in Richmond, IN.

Another Indianapolis car is this 1914 Marmon Model 48 Roadster. Below is a Stoddard Dayton which was the pace car for not only the very first 500 in 1911 but also served the same duty in 1913 and 1914.

  Also on display is an example of a Novi, the first front wheel drive car to run the race which they did from 1946 through 1954.

There is also a famous 1965 Ferrari LM which was driven to victory at that year's 24 hour race at LeMans by two American drivers.

This is a fabulous 1907 Italia Grand Prix racer that performed well throughout Europe and especially in England. One of these cars recorded a lap of 101.8 miles per hour in 1910. For the time that was unheard of speed.

Another European Grand Prix car is this 1908 Mercedes whose four cylinder engine has a displacement of 805.8 cubic inches.

The Buick racing team, driving cars similar to this 1909 Buick, won four of the events at the inaugural racing event at the IMS. One of the team members that year was a man named Louis Chevrolet.

This 1912 Fiat finished second in that year's 500. Driver Teddy Tetzlaff averaged 76.6 miles per hour for the 500 miles.

This is an original three wheel car built by Frenchman Leon Bollee who raced it from Paris to Marseille on Sept. 14, 1896.

The Last From Bethel

While everything was in place at the WOBO Radio and Post 406 Bethel American Legion Car Show including a great venue, music, food, games, and, of course, cars, not that many showed up for the event. It's a shame really because this was a really good show. Here are the last of those cars that did cruise out to Bethel to show off their rides.

Some of the cars shown in this post include a good looking Camaro, a 1961 Nash Metropolitan, a very slick and powerful looking custom rod, a Mustang, an amazing looking Buick Special, a 1976 Trans Am, and a 1968 Firebird.

Old Friends and New Faces

This was my first time attending the WOBO Radio and Post 406 Bethel American Legion Car Show but I still managed to run into some old friends (such as Larry Mertens and his Laser 917 http://turnerbudds-carblog.blogspot.com/2011/09/unique-kind-of-replica.html). That is always one of the best parts of going to a car show, re-connecting with friends and taking cars with folks you don't know.

Some of the cars on display in this post include my friend Larry Mertins' Laser 917, a Ford Model A, a 1989 Camaro, and a very cool Hudson Hornet.

The Station With Something For Everyone

To say that WOBO radio, 88.7 FM, has eclectic programming would be an understatement. According to their web site (http://www.wobofm.com/) they offer up classic country, bluegrass, religious, jazz, blues, Ameripolitan, Motown, soul, rock 'n'roll, German, big band, swing, Polish,and more. Having tuned in a time or two I can attest to this wide variety. The station co-sponsored the WOBO Radio and Post 406 Bethel American Legion Car Show which brought out nearly as much variety as their programming.

Some of the cars in this post are a cool Monte Carlo, a very souped up Chevy Nova, a Mustang, a 1956 Pontiac Star Chief, a 1951 Mercury, and a customized pick up truck that sat mighty low to the ground.

WOBO Radio and Post 406 Bethel American Legion Car Show

The WOBO Radio and Post 406 Bethel American Legion Car Show was held under a beautiful blue sky back in August. Held on the post grounds which allowed the cars to sit on the grass, many beneath big leafy trees, this was a very good location to hold a show. With the grounds being so large it also allowed the cars that were on display to spread out a bit and not be sitting on top of each other.

Classic Fords and Chevys make up most of the cars shown in this post. There is also a Mercedes kit car that I've posted from a few shows in the past. It's always an interesting car to see. There is also a pretty cool custom pick up.
