Bel Airs Went Rollin'

In 1950 Chevrolet introduced a new trim line for their full sized Styleline and Fleetline models. A two door hard top that was named after one of the ritziest neighborhoods in Los Angeles, the Bel Air wasn't an instant success as they sold just over 76,000 cars. In 1953 Chevy did a name change to its line up and the Bel Air became their top of the line halo car. It was the introduction of the second generation in 1955 that sent the Bel Air sky rocketing. Decked out in plenty of chrome and offering engines ranging from a small inline six cylinder of 216.5 cubic inches up to a hefty 283 cubic inch V8, this second generation, which ran through 1957, is fittingly known as Tri-5 and has become some of the most popular cars to roll into car shows across the country. The 34th Rollin' On the River Charity Car Show in Fernbank Park on the banks of the Ohio River was no exception. Here are just some of the Tri-5 Chevy models that were on hand to help raise money to support local children's charities.
