The History Of Coney Island (Ohio) Part 2

By 1887 Ohio Grove, the Coney Island Of the West had become such a popular destination that riverboats were making regular runs from downtown Cincinnati to the grove. People came to enjoy the dance hall, the dining hall and even the bowling alley. But they also came just to enjoy the serene tree lined grassy field east of downtown. The name was shortened to just Coney Island. By 1925 the park was expanding and added what is the 12th largest outdoor swimming pool in the world. Called Sunlight Pool it is the largest recirculating pool in North America. Today Sunlight Pool remains though the Coney Island park has changed a lot. These days, among other things, it is the host of Cruise-A-Palooza, one of the region's more popular car events. Among the vehicles that show up is a Pontiac GTO, a Jeep Marauder, a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, a custom street machine, a 1969 Shelby Cobra, a Chevy Impala, a Pontiac Fiero, and a 1933 Chevy Sport Coupe.
