In April, 1964 the Ford Motor Company introduced their most successful car since the Model A. Sold as a 1965 model, the Mustang was the highlight of Ford's 1964 World's Fair display. Essentially a "parts" car aimed at younger buyers, the Mustang was built on the Falcon's platform. What enticed buyers were three things: price, styling and power. The price was just over $2300 which is just under $24,000 in today's dollars. The styling was unique with a long nose and a short, compact rear end. The power ranged from a pedestrian 170 cubic inch (2.8L) inline six up to the 289 cubic inch (4.7L) V-8. It was the latter engine that the Mustang is most known for. Selling over 400,000 units that first year sent the Mustang into the history books. There were plenty of Mustangs on hand for the 49th Pumpkin Run Nationals earlier this autumn. Here are just a few of them.
