Vettes Put Their Wheels Back On Monmouth

The Chevrolet Corvette is one of America's most iconic automobiles. Created in the early 1950s as something of an answer to the "invasion" of sports cars from Europe, the Vette was initially flawed but has grown to be accepted as just this side of a super car. There were quite a few Vettes on hand at the Wheels Back on Monmouth event in Newport. Here are just a few.

The Wheels Back On Monmouth show held in Newport saw over 150 vehicles roll down their main street despite some early rain and the threat of more to come. A good number of those vehicles were trucks including various models from Chevrolet and Ford.

Wheels Back On Monmouth

For many years the storied river town of Newport, KY held a huge old car event that closed down it's main street, Monmouth, for over eight blocks. Called Rides On Monmouth, the event would draw hundreds of cars and trucks. Then came Covid. Like a lot of shows the Covid year saw no show in Newport. Then the person who had been overseeing it, the Chief of Police, retired. But the show was re-born in 2021 and named Wheels Back On Monmouth. This year's event had to be re-scheduled because of torrential rains. Then when the re-scheduled date came the weather once again threatened to dump moisture on the show. But despite that over 150 cars and trucks came to Newport to raise money for numerous charities that the local police force supports. Among the cars in attendance was a Chevrolet Corvette, a Dodge Challenger, a Pontiac Firebird, a Ford Mustang, an Oldsmobile 442, a Chrysler Newport, and a Ford Mustang.
