Second Annual Lakeside Park Crestview Hills Police Charity Car Show
Last year the inaugural Lakeside Park Crestview Hills Police Charity Car Show was held at the Crestview Hills shopping mall. It quickly became apparent that there simply wasn't enough space for all of the vehicles that showed up. That's why, for the second incarnation the show was moved to near by Thomas More University where about 300 cars and trucks showed up. Among them was a 1968 Pontiac Firebird, a 4th generation Firebird, a 1959 Continental (when it was its own line and not a Lincoln), a Dodge Viper, a 1953 Ford Victoria, and a Polaris Slingshot.

Wrapping Up Lawrenceburg
Today I am wrapping up my coverage of the 6th Annual Cruisin' To A Cure For ALS show in Lawrenceburg. There were well over 1000 vehicles on hand lining the main downtown streets of this quaint river city and they all helped to raise over $40,000 for their charity. Among the cars on hand was this Chevy Nova in the Super Sport trim, a "hippy dippy" 1995 GMC Safari van, a 1965 Ford Falcon, a Chevy Biscayne, a Ford Galaxie 500, and a Monte Carlo SS,

Pontiac Was Cruisin' For A Cure
The official closing down of the Pontiac brand by General Motors in January, 2010 was a tragic blow for many who had long loved the car line. In a strange way it mirrored what had happened to the Oakland Motor Car Company which had at one time been the parent brand to Pontiac. The exception being there no new brand swooped in to overtake Pontiac, it was a business decision by GM to consolidate lines and cut expenses. There, too, was a certain irony that GM turned down the opportunity to sell the brand when a Michigan Pontiac dealer named Jim Waldron said he had put together the financing to buy not only the name but also plants to keep the line alive. GM didn't go for it and sadly the Pontiac brand saw it's last car roll off the assembly line on a cold January day in 2010. Still, the enthusiasm for the cars remains which is why there were so many on hand at the 6th Annual Crusin' For a Cure For ALS show in Lawrenceburg. Here are some that were on hand, including not only the 1970 Le Mans seen above but also a number of GTOs and a Bonneville or two.

Lawrenceburg Saw A Nice Collection Of Bel Airs
Following the end of World War II it took Detroit a few years to ramp up new models. But by the end of that decade new cars were starting to roll off the assembly lines. In 1950 Chevrolet introduced a brand new full size automobile they called the Bel Air. The first generation lasted through the 1954 model year and in 1955 what most consider to be the most iconic Bel Airs were brought out; the second generation often referred to as the Tri-5 models. Even though the Bel Air ran for seven generations through 1975, it is the 1955 through 1957 offerings from Chevy are what most people see at car events all over the country. With well over 1000 vehicles on hand for the 6th Annual Cruisin' For A Cure For ALS show in Lawrenceburg it's little wonder that a lot of Bel Airs were on hand. Here are just a few of them.

Chevelles Were On Hand In Lawrenceburg
In 1964 Chevrolet introduced a new mid-sized car, the Chevelle. It was part of the A Body platform shared by some of the General Motors brands. The Chevelle, which ran through 1978 and covered three generations, was one of Chevy's best selling models. The Super Sport trim or SS was Chevy's first move into the muscle car. The top level trim for the first and second generation Chevelles was the Malibu. That's right, Malibu started as a trim line for the Chevelle. The El Camino was also based on the Chevelle. The car was wildly successful which is why you see so many at car events all over. There were plenty on hand for the 6th Cruisin' To A Cure For ALS show in Lawrenceburg. Here are a few that were on hand, including a yellow Malibu trim model.

Some Real Old Timers Were On Hand In Lawrenceburg
Part of the fun of going to classic and collector car events is seeing all of the great vintage automobiles. There are usually plenty from the 1960s and beyond but when you stumble across some that are from before World War II then you are seeing some very cool history. There were a number of these on hand at the 6th Annual Cruisin' For A Cure For ALS show in Lawrenceburg. Among them was this 1929 Plymouth, a 1938 Ford with that iconic Flathead V8 engine, a 1933 Chevy Eagle with the Stovebolt Six engine, a Ford Model A, a 1930 Model A, a 1944 Chevy, and a 1931 Hupmobile.
