While “car people” all have one thing in common, their appreciation of automobiles, in a way they are also as varied as the number of options you use to be able to get on a ‘60s Cadillac. Different makes and years preferences for original or chopped, even the countries of origin of a machine can lead people in different directions.
The internet is a wonderful thing. Why my words are being spilled forth on it right now for all to read. The beauty of the net is that it can be a gateway to all sorts of wonderful experiences and avenues of exploration. In some cases, it’s too easy to start hunting through the cyber forest and find paths leading to the most interesting destinations, only to find yourself jumping into a whole new journey.
For the purposes of this blog I wanted to narrow my horizons and search out some of the best car sites on the World Wide Web. So with that in mind I want to go about the daunting task of checking out some of the top car sites available on line for classic, collectable and exotic automobiles. A daunting task indeed.
I did a quick search for collectable cars. There were 317,000,000 links that presented me with more than just a couple of options. Yes, 317 million links. That’s a lot of results to explore. Even if I could quickly eliminate all of the phony links, the ones really trying to sell me Viagra and ways to get rich while sitting on my butt, it would still take months if not years to sift through all of them.
So I did what you’re supposed to do in order to help narrow down the number of search results: I used quotation marks. Typing “collectable cars” into the search window did help. Some. It yielded only 70,100,000 links. For some reason I didn’t think that a mere 70 million was going to be a whole lot easier to filter through than the original 317 million.
Not feeling put off I went with a search on “classic cars” (note the quotation marks) with the same outrageous results: 318,000,000 hits. I was almost afraid to do a search for “exotic cars.” But do I did; quotation marks included. It netted me 160 million options.
It really didn’t matter what I typed into the search engine, cars or automobiles or vehicles or any of a number of other possible searches, the results were all the same: millions and millions of links offering to send me to all things car. (Just because I know you’re all dying of curiosity, typing in Viagra only brought up a little over 50 million hits. It’s good to know that more people are interested in running their motors than in, well, revving their engines.)
Normally I’m not the type of person who gives up easily. I see a goal and I work toward it as best I can. I’m also not the kind of guy is reluctant to ask for help. That is unless I’m driving and am not sure of directions. Or if I’m trying to fix something around the house that I’ve never done before. Or if I’m trying to build something in the back yard and don’t have the right tools or supplies. Well, you get the idea.
Here I am asking for help. OK, sure, this is the easy way out, relying on other people to do the work. But I’d like to think that everyone who is reading this blog would be willing to chip in and toss me a few ideas.
So what I would like is for everyone to let me know your favorite car web sites. They can be for anything dealing with cars. They can be for any or all types of cars. I’m just hoping to find some of the coolest sites out there and then share them (without having to dig through millions of links).
Feel free to post the links here or drop me an email at turnerbudds@yahoo.com. Thanks, now I’ll have more time to answer all those people from Africa who want me to help them get their money out of their country.
