Some Old and Some Really Old Cars Were At Rollin' On the River

The Rollin' On the River show brought in over 200 amazing machines so it's little wonder that there were some old cars on display. But there were also some really old vehicles as well such as this 1935 Ford Coupe. Also on display were a 1937 Ford, a 1950 Packard Standard 8 Touring Sedan, a 1912 Model T, a Mercedes 380 SL, a highly customized Volkswagen Karmann Ghia, another Model T, and a first generation Thunderbird.

A Nice Mix At Rollin' On the River

When a show draws over 200 vehicles you can rest assured that there are going to be a lot of the usual suspects on the lot. But there is also a good chance of seeing some that you don't regularly lay eyes on. This was the case at the Rollin' On the River show in Delhi as among the rides on display was a 1954 Cadillac El Dorado convertible, an Edsel 8, a 1959 Chevy Bel Air, a tiny little car that I couldn't find out exactly what it was, and some Chevelles.

A Hupmobile and More Were Rollin' On the River

In 1906 Bobby Hupp teamed up with former Chrysler employee Charles Hastings to form the Hupp Motor Car Company. They immediately started constructing the Model 20 which sold for $900. By the end of the first year they had made 500 cars. That number ballooned to 5000 for the 1910 model year. This instant success prompted Hupp to buy up a number of companies which then supplied parts to Hupp Motors. But in 1913 Hupp left his namesake company and informed them that his parts manufacturers would no longer supply Hupp Motors. The company, now under new management, scrambled to expand so they could manufacture their own parts. Such rapid expansion could have hurt the company but demand for their cars was high enough that they managed to weather any possible downside; at least for a while. The company that had been doing so well with their more affordable car decided to move up in class and that, along with the Great Depression, began their downfall. By 1939 the company had closed its doors leaving an interesting legacy. In fact Greyhound Bus was created using a seven seater Hupp car and the NFL was founded at a Hupp dealership in Canton, OH.

This 1931Century 6 four door sedan was on hand for the Rollin' On the River car show. Also on display was a 1955 Chevy Bel Air, a 1967 Ford Mustang, a 1955 Fairlane convertible, a Plymouth Prowler, a 1952 Oldsmobile, a modified 1956 Fairlane, and a second generation Mercury Capri.

A River Runs By It

It runs 981 miles, borders on six states and its drainage basin includes parts of 14 states. The sixth oldest river in North America, it has the third greatest discharge volume in the United States and that makes it the largest by volume tributary of the Mississippi. The name comes from the Seneca word Ohi-yo which means Great River. The Ohio River was one of the major arteries to early exploration of America as settlers moved west. Today passes by a lot of cities and towns including the small community of Delhi, the home of Fernbank Park which is the host of the Rollin' On the River show which always brings in a good selection of vehicles. Among the cars on display was a 1959 Cadillac Coupe de Ville convertible, a Ford Model T hot rod, a beautiful Packard, a Pontiac Firebird, a Chevy Impala, a pre-War Ford alongside a pre-War Dodge, a pair of Ford based street rods, and a Ford pick up truck.

Weather Was No Issue At Rollin' On the River

Over the years it seems as though the Rollin' On the River car show has had a love/hate relationship with Mother Nature. For a summer show they have had a surprising number of events suffer from rainy weather. But this year's show, as you can see in the photos, saw none of that. In fact the weather was perfect for a summer enjoying great cars on the banks of the river. Among the cars on display were a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda, a 1966 Chevy Chevelle, a Dodge Charger, a custom Volkswagen Beetle, a 1974 Pontiac Firebird, a first generation Ford Thunderbird, and a 1957 Bel Air.

Some Shaky Shots From Rollin' On the River

One of the problems I have with large, crowded shows is that I often have to wait for the right moment and then hurry up and take the photo. I have to do that because I'm trying to get as open of a shot of a car as possible, one with as few people around as possible. I especially don't want anyone blocking part of the car. That is evident on a few of the shots in this post. Some are a little blurry and shaky but I am posting them anyway because I think the cars are cool. The Rollin' On the River show matched all of these criteria and produced a few such shots. But here they are. This is a 1961 Chrysler 300 G. Also on display were a Porsche 356, a C1 Chevy Corvette, a couple Chevy pick ups, a Lincoln Continental,
