A Cool August Day Brought Out Plenty Of Automobiles

The weather in August is supposed to be hot and sticky but for the Park and Ride For Heroes event held in Alexandria's AJ Jolley Park, the weather felt more like early October with clouds and a cool breeze. Perhaps it was this weather or it was the good cause, raising money to help first responders, that brought out over 100 automobiles for this show. Among the cars on the park's lawn was a first generation Pontiac Tempest. The Tempest was introduced in the fall of 1960 for the 1961 model year as Pontiac's entry for the small car market. The car would be most famous for the trim lines it spawned including the LeMans which later itself gave us the performance heavy GTO. Also on display was a 1967 Chevy Camaro Rally Sport, a Volkswagen Type 2 van, a 1968 Camaro, a Dodge Dart Swinger, a 1971 Challenger, and a Bel Air.
