Wrapping Up Deer Park

Today I'll be making my last post about this year's Cars In the Park show held in Deer Park's Chamberlain Park. As always, feel free to let me know what you thought of this event either by leaving a comment (no ads, please) or by dropping me an email at turnerbudds@yahoo.com. This show, though smaller than last years, still managed to attract over 80 automobiles on a beautiful August day. Among the vehicles on display was a collection of General Motors cars including a Pontiac GTO convertible, a 1963 Pontiac Catalina, a Chevy Nova, a Chevrolet Chevelle, a Chevy Monte Carlo, and an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.

As is usually the case, there were plenty of Chevrolet Corvettes on hand for the Cars In the Park event held on a sweltering summer day in Deer Park's Chamberlain Park. While most were newer models there was a C1 and a couple of C4 cars on display.

Trucks In Deer Park

Among the more than 80 automobiles that took part in the Cars In the Park event in Deer Park's Chamberlain Park were a number of pick up trucks. This pick up trend has been going on for a few years now and it's good to see people restoring and taking care of these workers. Among the trucks was a Chevrolet 3100, a Chevy 1500, a Chevy Apache, a Ford flatbed tow truck, a Ford Model A, a Ford Ranchero, and a custom International Harvester model.

Variety In Deer Park

The Cars In the Park event at Deer Park's Chamberlain Park brought in some nice variety. There were newer rides, older cars, customs and stock among the over 80 automobiles on hand. Among them was a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire, a custom Chevrolet coupe, a Ford Fairlane 500, a Pontiac Firebird, a Chevy Corvair, and a 1976 Plymouth Volare.

Mustangs Galloped Into Deer Park

Without a doubt the most famous and successful "parts" car every produced, the Ford Mustang, though technically not the first introduced to the market, it became the most recognizable of the "pony" cars that swept the Detroit automakers in the mid 1960s. With a long nose and a short deck, the Mustang hit showrooms in April of 1964 after being introduced at that year's New York World's Fair. While the Plymouth Barracuda which featured the same stylistic nose and boot features went on sale just over two weeks prior, the Mustang far outsold the MoPar entry as well as later stabs at the market by General Motors' Chevrolet (Camaro) and Pontiac (Firebird) divisions as well as the Dodge Challenger and the AMC Javelin. Ford's Lee Iococca envisioned an affordable sports car that could be brought to market quickly. With that in mind the engineers at Ford "robbed" the parts bins of existing cars, especially the compact Falcon. Over the years the Mustang has become one of the most iconic classic cars in the States and that is one reason why so many can be found at old car events. There were quite a few that rolled into Deer Park's Chamberlain Park as part of this year's Cars In the Park. Here they are.
