Pontiac Came to Sycamore Township

In 1926 General Motors was growing in line with the automobile industry as a whole. GM's attitude was that they would make a car for everyone and their particular situation. That meant they there would be a line of cars for every financial and status bracket. At the time their Oakland brand sat just above Chevrolet on their price ladder. But there was a bit of a gap between those two and so GM decided to create a companion line called Pontiac. Named for the city that the Oakland plant was situated in Michigan, Pontiac soon overtook the Oakland in sales and by 1931 Pontiac had supplanted Oakland and GM decided to shutter the older car line. Pontiac thrived, sitting between Chevy and Oldsmobile, even becoming the brand that essentially created the muscle car. But by the beginning of the 21st century GM was suffering from being too stretched with so many brands that were often competing with each other. The first to fall was Oldsmobile in 2004 but by 2010 Pontiac was also on the chopping block. Still, with its influence in the muscle car era, there are plenty of Pontiacs that roll into car shows. That was no different with the 15th Annual Sycamore Township Car Show. Among the ones at this show was a 1968 GTO, a 1967 "Goat," a Firebird, another GTO, a 1963 Catalina, and a 1988 Fiero GT.
