American Collector Cars At the Cincinnati Concours

The American Collector Class at this year's Cincinnati Concours d'Elegance might well have been the most difficult to judge in the entire show. The class was filled with spectacular cars, many rarely or ever seen. One example was this 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. This unrestored beauty was the first US build front wheel drive car since Cord went out of business in 1937.

Fewer than two dozen of these 1958 Buick Limited Convertible are know to still exist. In fact, only 839 were ever built.

A few more of these 1961 Studebaker Hawks were built. In fact there were a total of 3929 manufactured. This car was restored in 2010.

There were only 30 1957 Chevrolet El Morocos ever built. Only a handful are known to exist. These cars were Bel Airs at heart with extensive restyling to resemble the more upscale Cadillac.

On the field was a 1964 Chevy Corvair Monza Convertible. This car was the only US built vehicle with a rear mounted, air cooled engine.

Designed by the famed Harley Earl, this 1948 Pontiac Torpedo Convertible has been family owned since brand new.

This 1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible underwent a total frame off rotisserie restoration in 2003.

In 1956 when this Lincoln Continental Mk II was new it cost a whopping $10,000. Only 1300 were sold that year.
Another rare car on display was this 1958 Dual Ghia. Only 117 were ever built between 1956 and 1958 with fewer than 40 known to still exist. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Ronald Regan all owned Dual Ghias.
