Pontiacs Made Their Way To the Park

My dad was a Pontiac man. The first new car he was ever able to afford was a first generation Tempest. Prior to that he had owned used Chevys. The family, indeed the extended family, generally hung around General Motors cars because my uncle, my dad's brother-in-law, worked at the Norwood GM plant and was able to use the family discount to help his brothers and sisters. As a lover of cars I took a special interest in Pontiacs as we had a number of them over the years. Most of those were station wagons. For a family of four in the 1960s a station wagon was the preferred mode of travel. We made trips to relatives house throughout the region and took vacations to the Gulf of Mexico in those wagons. That's why when GM closed shut down the brand after 86 years, there was some sorrow in our family. Of course, by the mid-1970s, still taking advantage of my uncle's discount, my dad had moved into Cadillacs. But over its life span, Pontiac made some fantastic cars, especially from the late 1960s on and a good selection of them showed up at the 33rd Annual Rollin' On the River Car Show sponsored by the Delhi Kiwanis and held in beautiful Fernbank Park. Here are some that were on display.
