33rd Annual ACE Car Show Part 1

Back in the 1970s, a group of employees at Middletown’s Armco Steel Plant got together to enjoy their common interest in classic automobiles. The group organized an auto club as a way to promote and share their interests. The Armco Car Enthusiasts club was later shortened to the ACE Car Club.
After a few years they decided to sponsor a car show. Now in its 33rd year, the ACE show was held in Armco Park on June 11. Despite it being a sticky Sunday and, now that school is out, a traditionally busy weekend with families taking part in any number of early summer activities. None of this deterred folks from driving out to the park to enjoy a varied collection of automotive history.
The car club, still based in Middletown, is open to all types and models of vehicle, welcoming everyone with open arms. The same is true with their show as they are one of the few car shows around that still awards trophies in classes. This is one way they continue to encourage a wide variety of cars to show up and participate.
In addition to some traditional classics such as ‘50s Chevys and ‘60s Mustangs, there were a number of models that aren’t seen as often. There were a number of Mopar vehicles there as well as quite a few ‘30s beauties. There were some foreign entries from England and Germany (including a 1973 3-wheeled English Reliant) as well as a Studebaker and a Nash among others. Take a look at some of these beautiful show cars and be sure to let us know which of them you like best.
