Through the late 1950s, Jaguar was looking to create a car to replace their iconic D Series. The car they developed, logically called the E Series and later the XKE by American dealers, became an even greater icon in its own right.
Introduced in March 1961 at the Geneva Motor Show, the E Series became something no other car had really achieved to that point: a mass produced super car.
With a 3.8 liter engine that produced 265 horse power and lines as stunning as anything rolling out of Italy, the E Series became hugely popular the world over. Movie stars in Hollywood started driving them and with a reasonably affordable price, starting at around $5600, people flocked to them.
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the E Series, Jaguar has planned a series of events all over the world. Starting where it all began, in Geneva, and continuing through the summer up to the famous Palm Springs Concourse d’Elegance, Jaguar E Series cars will be showing at events throughout the year.
The recent Ault Park Concourse d’Elegance was no exception. Here is a look at some of the E Series Jags on display.
There was also a 1950 Jaguar Mark V Saloon that I couldn’t resist throwing into the mix. Let us know which ones you like and keep your eyes out for an E Series event near you.
E-types!!! love jags!!!...
ReplyDeleteMe too. There's just something so cool about those cars. Especially the big V-12s. They handle great and have plenty of pep.
