David Schneider is a Cincinnati native who also spends some of his time down in Florida. One day in 2008 when he was down there a friend of his called him up and told him he needed to meet someone. The someone in question was an Australian yacht builder. But David wasn’t looking for a yacht. “I was looking for a red car,” he said.
The yacht builder had a red classic he needed to sell because he was involved in a deal and needed the cash, according to David. So David went and looked at the man’s red car.
What he saw was a red 1959 Chevrolet Corvette.
Chevrolet introduced the Corvette as competition to some of the European sports cars that were making their way to American soil. It boasted a 283 cubic inch V 8 that put out up to 270 horsepower. To increase the amount of speed the car could achieve, Chevy took the approach of cutting down on the weight. One major way they did that was to make the body our of fiberglass rather than steel.
David saw the Vette and fell in love. Joking that it cost about one third of the price of a Ferrari, he purchased it mostly to drive on weekends in good weather.
He didn’t buy the car with the idea of taking it to car shows. In fact the recent Ault Park Concourse d’Elegance was the first show to which he’d taken the car.
“I never owned a Corvette before,” David said. “I always loved this car growing up.” But now he owns the red car he had been looking for.
man love these cars!!!! :)
