27th Annual VW/Porsche Reunion

The histories of Volkswagen and Porsche are completely interwoven. It is pretty well know that Ferdinand Porsche started his initial company in 1931 to offer automobile design and development services. The first big job he landed was from the German government. During those depression era times, the government wanted a car for the people, a people's car. That translated in German is Volkswagen. The car itself was the Beetle.
Based on this highly successful beginning, the two companies have remained close, even working together in the 1960s to develop the 914 series (http://turnerbudds-carblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/an-overblown-volkswagon.html). Today Porsche is part of the thriving Volkswagen Group (which also includes the likes of Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, and Lamborghini).
Recently, for the 27th straight year, the Annual Volkswagen and Porsche Reunion was held. The event is part car show, part swap meet and part, well, reunion, as owners of these two marquees come together to show off their cars, talk and basically enjoy being around other Volkswagen and Porsche enthusiasts.
From Beetles to Things, from 356 series to 911, there were all models of these two cars sitting on the grass on a beautiful fall day. There were stock Beetles and Karmann Ghias, mint Porsche 356 and 911 models, Bugs that had been chopped and customized, 924s and 944s, Micro Buses and Carriers, Things and Rabbits, even kit cars and dune buggies. Here are some varied examples. Over the next few days I'll be posting lots of pictures by marquee and model as well as a few interesting Volkswagen categories. All just in time for Oktoberfest.
