One Out of Four

Otis Pierson’s Pontiac Coupe isn’t a one of a kind car but it is one of only four 1927 Pontiacs left in the entire country. Two are down in Texas, one is in Indiana, and the other is owned by the Mt. Orab, Ohio man who bought it in 2002.
The 1927 line was introduced by the Oakland Motor Car Company based in Pontiac, Michigan were actually announced and introduced in January, 1926. In all there were 10 models of the 6-27 series, based on the Sedan, the Coupe, the Cabriolet, the Roadster, the panel van and the open box design (which was as close as they got to a pick-up truck back in the day). All of these models were designated by Oakland as the 6-27 series. These cars were in production from December, 1925 until October, 1927. In all over 204,000 of the 6-27 series were sold.
It started with the 4-door Landau Sedan that January. The Coupe was introduced in November, 1926 along with the Deluxe Landau Sedan.
According to Pierson his Coupe was all original when he bought it, including the 19 inch wooden wheels. Since original parts would be impossible to find he decided to rebuild it into a road worthy and show ready roadster. And since working on cars is his business, he had a good idea of what he wanted to do.
The six month rebuild kept a lot of the original metal in place. But some of the metal me did add gave his ’27 something to brag about. He dropped in an all-new 350 horse power V 8 and transmission that gives his Coupe a little more power than those that were tooling the roads back in the late ‘20s.
Another addition Pierson did during the rebuild was to take out the hard and bumpy bench seat and replaced them with Toyota buckets that make driving it a bit more comfortable. And while he loves to drive this classic work of automotive art around he did admit that he might be in the market for something with a little more leg room. Until he finds that and starts showing it, keep an eye out for this unique beauty.
