Ferdinand Porsche started in self named automotive company in the 1930s offering development and consultation work for other companies. They were approached by the German government to create a car for the people and "the people's car" was born. Called the Volkswagen Type 1 it became known as the Beetle. During World War II, like most automotive companies around the world, Porsche developed military items, most notably a type of all purpose, all terrain personnel carrier called the Kubelwagen or Type 2 but referred to in the USA when it was released for sale as The Thing. Following the war, Ferdinand's son Ferry decided to build his own car and release it under his own name and Porsche, as we know it, was born with that 356. While Porsche is most known for its iconic 911 (see yesterday's post) there are other cars in their line. The DeVou Park Concours d'Elegance showed many of them in a class called Not Every Porsche Is a 911. Among those cars was a number of 356 models, a 968, a 928, and a couple more 356 models.
